The Wahoos Swim Team's season will start on
September 15, 2008 and will continue until March
7, 2008 (for any non championship qualifying
swimmers). The winter swim team is only
available to full member of the YMCA.

- Coach Adam has authority to recommend
appropriate practices for a swimmer who
needs to override the age guidelines for
their practice group.
- All swimmers are encouraged to bring a water
bottle to every practice.
- Western Wahoos participate in the
C&P,
MA Swimming,
Suburban
Swim League (SSL) and
USA
Swimming.

What group should I

Introduction |
Beginner |
|
This group will focus on developing the basic
technique for freestyle and backstroke before
breaststroke and butterfly are introduced.
Three practices a week are available, swimmers
are encouraged to attend a minimum of two.
Prerequisites:
-
Participants must be able to swim one
(1) full
length
(25 meters) of freestyle without
stopping.
-
Children must also be able to tread
water in place
and also float on their back
comfortably for a minimum
of 30 seconds

All four stroke will be taught with short
technique-oriented workouts, along wiht the
introduction of flip turns and starts.
Four practices a week are offered; swimmers are
encouraged to attend a minimum of three.
Prerequisites:
-
Must be able to complete
2 full lengths (50 meters) of freestyle, with
rotary breathing, without stopping

2 full
lengths of legal backstroke.

Able to tread water in place and have a

Basic
understanding of breaststroke with legal kick
and butterfly.

Advanced |
|
This group will start to increase their level of
conditioning
through more advanced
technique-oriented workouts. USA Swimming
membership included in team fee. Three practices
per week required; however four to five are
encouraged.
Prerequisites:
-
8 full
lengths(200 meters) of freestyle, with rotary
breathing, without stopping
-
4 full lengths of legal backstroke,
-
2 full laps of both breaststroke and butterfly,
-
Ability to perform
flip turns and starts from a block.
Full Members Only: $491

Swimmers are expected to make a commitment to
becoming a better swimmer by setting realistic
goals with a Coach. Practices will
continue to focus on technique and increasing
endurance, while race strategy and strength
training are introduced. USA Swimming
membership included in fee. Swimmers are
expected to make an effort to attend all
practices.
Prerequisites:
-
20 full
lengths (500 meters) of freestyle, with rotary
breathing, without stopping and
-
4 full lengths
(100 meters) of legal backstroke, breaststroke
and butterfly as well as a
-
200 meter IM.

National |
|
National group participants are those with
aspirations of representing the club at YMCA
National Swimming Championships and perhaps
continuing on at the collegiate level.
Partcipants make lifestyle decisions that will
help them obtain their individual goals.
Practice will consist of intense workouts geared
toward increasing strenght, endurance,
techniquem and race strategy. USA Swimming
membership included in team fee. Two
morning practices per week are expected for high
school swimmers, along with afternoon practices.
80% participation is required to attend YMCA
National Short Course Swimming and Diving
Championships in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Prerequisites:
- A goal session with a National group
coach.
- A coach's recommendation to move up to
the National group.
