Adam Braun – Competitive
Aquatic Director
Adam comes to our community
from Cincinnati, Ohio where he graduated from
Ohio State in 2006. While at Ohio State, Adam
completed his major in Sport and Leisure
Studies, Coaching and Management and received a
minor in Business. In addition to his studies,
Adam was a four time varsity letterer for Ohio
State University Swim Team and a three time
Academic All Big Ten Athlete. Adam grew up
in the Detroit, Michigan area and swam
competitively for his local YMCA while
representing his YMCA program at YMCA Nationals.
Most recently Adam has been working as a Human
Resource Director for Cincinnati Pool Management
where he was responsible for the staffing of
over 400 seasonal employees which included over
40 community pools in the Greater Cincinnati and
Northern Kentucky communities.
Adam brings to our program
a huge knowledge of competitive swimming and a
committed passion to aquatics so that he may
provide quality programming and opportunities
for all members in this community. |

Ryan Schultz – Head
Coach
This is Ryan’s second
season coaching the Wahoos since returning to
Delaware. He previously coached our Wahoos from
1996 through 1999. His long history with the
Western Family YMCA began when he started
swimming in 1987 at the age of eight years old.
He continued through the program through his
senior year of high school, many of those years
under the tutelage of Blaise Matthews. He
represented our Wahoos four times at YMCA
Nationals. After high school he swam at Emory
University in Atlanta, GA graduating in 2001. In
addition to coaching he is currently a benefits
consultant at Kelly Benefit Strategies. |

Blaise Matthews –
National Team Coach
Blaise Matthews is on his
second coaching stint with the Wahoos having
been the head coach from 1992-2000. He is a
former Olympic Trial qualifier, USA Jr. National
Team member, Junior National Champion and record
holder, National Age Group record holder, and
has several events on the USA Swimming’s All
Time Top 100 Times list. His time will be spent
coaching the Senior and National swimming
groups, but enjoys coaching any age. His
philosophy is to make swimming a lifetime sport
by laying the foundation for current and future
success. |

Katie Kuczmarski –
Assistant Coach
Katie was born right here
in Wilmington, DE, and she began swimming at the
age of 6 for Arundel Swim Club. That winter she
started swimming for our Western Family YMCA Wahoos
where she became an integral part of the Wahoos swim
team for the next 10 years. She went on to set
the Delaware High School State Record in the 100
yard breaststroke as a student at St. Marks High
School. Following high school, Katie accepted a
swimming scholarship to Rutgers University in
New Jersey where she became captain of the swim
team her senior year. Throughout her career she
was a multiple year YMCA National Qualifier as
well as a US National qualifier in high school
and went on to break multiple school records at
Rutgers. She was given the Rutgers Swimming
Leadership award her senior year as well as
being named "Most Inspirational Swimmer" for two
years while on the team. She is currently a High
School English Teacher at St. Mark's where she
teaches Juniors and Seniors British Literature
as well as Creative and Critical Writing. |

Christine Nutini –
Assistant Coach
Christine has been a part of the Western YMCA
Staff since the summer of 2004. Since then she
has participated on the Western Wahoos Swim
Team. She also swam in high school for Sanford
and went on to swim at Elizabethtown College.
After her first year at Elizabethtown she
transferred to the University of Delaware. Since
she transferred she has worked as a coach since
the summer of 2007. |

Amy Andruskiewicz - Assistant Coach
We are quite
fortunate to have Amy back in
Delaware coaching again at Western. She
swam for our Wahoos from 6 to 18 years
of age. She achieved YMCA All-American
status as a 5-time long course national
qualifier and 4-time short course
national qualifier, while attending high
school at Ursuline Academy. She also
swam for the University of Pittsburgh
graduating with degrees in psychology
and communications. She continued at
Pitt and achieved her masters in
education.
Her coaching
experience started at Western in 1997
where she coached the summer
program until 2002 where she started as
an assistant and eventually elevated to
head coach. After graduate school she
coached a club team (Upper St. Clair)
and high school in western Pennsylvania.
She then became the head coach of the
Milton Branch YMCA. She has also taught
2nd through 4th grade, as well as 7th,
and college math classes. She is quite
excited to be back coaching again and we
are just as happy to have her back.

Sara Bass- Assistant Coach
Sara is currently a junior, psychology
major at the University of Delaware.
She has been swimming since she can
remember including at Concord High
School and presently on the University
of Delaware club team. This is her
first time working at the Western YMCA
but she previously worked at the Jewish
Community Center in Wilmington for six
years. There, she taught children ages
four months to twelve years how to swim
during summer camp.

Vanessa Delmerico- Assistant
Coach
Vanessa Delmerico is a junior at the
University of Delaware and joined
the Western YMCA staff this
September. She swam through high
school, at A.I. duPont. She has
worked with young swimmers at the
JCC camp, teaching swim lessons
during past three summers and has
life guarded year round since 2005.

Kris Meginley - Assistant Coach
Kris has been an employee of the Western
YMCA since her first job as a lifeguard
when she was 15 years old. She has
recently graduated from Deltech
Community College as a registered nurse
and is seeking career opportunities
specializing in pediatrics and
neonates. During the past four years at
the YMCA, Kris has been teaching swim
lessons to a variety of ages and skill
levels. Kris started her swimming
career at Maple Valley Swim Club at the
age of 6. She also was a brief member
of the Wahoo swim team as well as The
Charter School of Wilmington. Kris is
extremely excited to be apart of the
Wahoo coaching staff.
